Hyperthyroidism Running On Empty

Of all the glands in the human body the Thyroid is the largest. If size has anything to do with order of importance then the Thyroid deserves it’s physical ranking. This butterfly shaped gland has as its primary job, the production of hormones. The majority of these hormones are destined for the brain and control your bodies metabolic rate.

This flow of hormones could be described as being the bodies accelerator pedal. Keep the pedal pressed down and the body goes about its business at normal speed and faster when called into action, getting tired when it should and recovering rapidly but evenly. While an underactive thyroid can have many consequences and symptoms, lack of energy is probably the most prominent and trying to push yourself beyond that point brings on a rush of other symptoms.

These other symptoms like shortness of breath, headache, and heavy perspiring seem to go right along with lack of sustainable energy and sluggishness. And if you are older, overweight or generally out of shape it is easy to brush off all these symptoms on those conditions without every considering the Thyroid gland as the culprit.

There are many thyroid disorders identified in medical journals such as overactive thyroid or hyperthyroidism but the one that effects men and women equally of all ages and even seen in newborns and infants is the lack of hormone production from an underactive thyroid.
